Creating opportunities for improvement that addresses present challenges and move towards an enhanced future

Employees in their daily work are faced with constant pressure to deliver short-term results which. This often engenders a ‘just getting on with it’ approach, where the symptoms of problems are treated rather than time being invested to identify the underlying issues and causes. Opportunity creation generates ideas and proposes solutions for an improved future by redirecting attention to finding and addressing the causes of present challenges. 

The following five behaviours are all opportunities to develop capability in opportunity creation:

• Finding Root Causes - I examine the root causes of challenges and issues when seeking opportunities for improvement
• Generating Ideas - I generate a variety of ideas and possible solutions to challenges and problems we encounter
• Organizational Awareness - I explore and consider ideas and solutions that are realistic given the state of readiness and context we are currently operating in
• Proposing Solutions - I consider alternatives and propose a solution that best addressess the present problem or imagines a bette  future
• Action Orientation - When recommending solutions, I identify a course of action to realize it
